Awana Genting Trailblazer 2010

A race that I look forward to with mr tomatoman. A team race where we help each other to cross the finishing line but it’s more like tomatoman drag me to the finishing line.. :D
Lesson learned
- I need more upper body strength for trail running compare to road running
- Racing in a mixed team is tough for girls but at the end it makes you tougher and stronger.

The North Face 2010, Aim for the sky, fall on the moon.

Did I set an unrealistic target for north face 2010 ? I actually set this target base on how I did last year. I was hoping to finish within 2hours 35 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes.
This year I partner Tomatoman and our team is Crazy Tomei (tomato + mei yan). We, (Kenny, Debbie and both of us ) left KL last Friday morning and reach Sg around 4 p.m ++. We headed straight to Marina Square to collect our Bib . At the bib collection area which is inside North Face Concept shop , we bump into yip , san and shih ming.
After the collection without wasting time, we went straight to Kenny’s friend, Ming at his house in Bedok. At Ming’s place we were greeted by Ming and his wife Chris and their 2 hyper active dogs.
That night we slept early as we need to get up early in the morning to get ready. BTW the race starts at 10 am. which means we have ample of time to enjoy our breakfast.
The race flag of at 10 a.m. Tomato and I ran together as he told me he did not want to push as he have calf injury recently. We were happy to clock 6 min / km pace for the first 10 km. A comfortable pace for me but might be slow for tomato. I was actually dreaming to finish the race in 2 hours 30 minutes.  :D
As the journey continues there were a lot of very open area and we were exposed to sun. It was really hot and each water station I passed I would grab 2 cups of 100 plus and a cup of plain water to pour over my head.
After 15 km , I wasn’t feeling that great anymore, I begin to breathe heavily , my legs want to go faster but my breathing is not helping me. I bump into yip for the second time and this time he encouraging me by saying there is only 10 km left. I was happy and at the same time I suspect that yip is suffering as he was already walking.
The last 5 km was the toughest; I wanted to give up so badly as I’m tired and my hands developing goose bumps. The weird part is the weather is hot but I developing goose bumps.
Tomato realizes that I’m suffering as I begin to run slower and slower and walks on uphill. I told him I reach the max. He begins to change our target to 2hours 45 minutes, and then to the timing I did last year. A lot of thoughts running thru my brain, I suspect it is over distance. When I knew I only got 2 more km to go, I keep telling tomato that I can’t wait to get out of the trail and lie down on the grass.
Finally we cross the finishing line together for the first time. It was sweet and kind of romantic to do so.

A Very Compact Update by Princess Petai

After a month of being in a non competitive mode, I guess I declared myself as being lazy. Lazy to blog, lazy to cycle , lazy to run long distance and even lazy to swim. Errr something new to most of you , michelle is lazy to swim. :P.
     However did a lot of trail running this month and last month , a climb to gunung dato , running around fraser hill and a relaxing hike at gunung nuang (only to camp pacat). I just love the feeling of freedom while running downhill with high speed. Of course I did felt badly while running downhill with tomato and hsing ling on one Friday after at bukit gasing.
Anyway a really quick update on what happen after my last update in this blog.
1)      Subang 10k (05/06/2010)
- Special thanks to Keat Seong for pacing me for this event and I got 2nd placing in women open category. However like what always said mission fail as I plan to dip below 50 minutes. Just 8 second off my target.
2)      Eco Green Run Damansara Perdana (19/06/2010), is only 7km and I’m quite happy with this fast and furious run.
3)      SCKLM, Half Marathon (28/06/2010)
-         Yes I did this marathon under sponsor for registration fees and running vest from my company Etiqa . Special thanks to Goh Siang Hwa for coordinating this.
-         A Calf guard sponsor by BV sports
4)      Siemen’s Run 18/07/2010 , another 10km run with a failed mission to dip below 50 minutes but the good news is I got RM 150 cash prize to spend my friends for breakfast after the run. :D..
5)      Ji Mui aka bride’s maid for Tang ‘s wedding in Seremban on 11/07/2010. Congrat and wish you all the best in your new chapter in life.
6)      PD triathlon 25/07/2010 with the total time of 2:47.
7)      Ipoh Century Ride 01/08/2010, went there with no intention to race , in actual fact I don’t feel like cycling 160km as I will be having rat race 2 days later. Seriously I had the intention to save my legs for a 4.5 km dash. Million thanks to my darling, tomato for accompanying me through out the whole 160km cycling event.
8)      Rat Race 03/08/2010, it was quite a last minute thingy and this is the first time I join this race. I was quite anxious and keep asking Khoo from CIMB bank for advice and tips. Maybank HR, Datin orked and Lee Lin did a good job for making sure we had a good lunch, enough water to drink before the race and they even provide us a packet of gel.
Our women open team got first and fifth. Good job girls, next year we will try to win something for the group. :D
9)      14-15/08/2010,Fraser Hill , raub trip for durian , bentong for ice cream where I met siong har in the ice cream shop,  Great trip organized by Tony  and a trip to remember as I was attack by leeches while running at bishop trail and what surprise me was my right feet swollen badly after the leeches bite that I have to go for a jab in university hospital and on MC the next day.  
10)  22/08/2010, Gunung Datuk Trip. Since tomato never been to the peak of gunung datuk, I decided to organize this trip there with the help of Tony.
11)  28/08/2010 , Gunung Nuang until camp pacat with a small group, valen and his wife , tony and tomato.
12)  10/09/2010, Trail run in Frim with Emma, Siok B and tomato. We nearly canceled the plan because of the rain but decided to continue with it and started quite late that day. We met up with lee and yap riding their mt bike. They are nice to stop at every corner to wait for us as they know we are not familiar with the route. I did enjoy the run but somehow I felt really tired after the run and sleep like a pig for the rest of the day.
13)  12/09/2010 a Newton 25km road running simulation. One word, boring. Luckily I signed up for 12km distance.
14)  16/09/2010, trail run in frim with yip and his brother. This time the run was tough for me as I have to run faster to keep up with them and I feel quite paiseh for them to wait for me.
15)  18/09/2010 , Mei Ru and desmond wedding , another day as ji mui aka bride’s maid . Congrat and Good luck in your future and I’m happy for both of you.  
16)  26/09/2010, First run after puasa month and this time I run 12km distance and the whole world is asking me why I did such a short distance. I explained to them that I signed up for a lot of half marathon this year and decided to go for shorter distance for a change. Maybe is a wise choice and the good news is I got 3rd for 12km women open. :P
Oohh yah 1 more thing, I got a new singer sewing machine from Lee and I love it. Lot of projects waiting for me to start, I just need TIME.

Setia Eco Half Marathon 2010

As I’ve been racing week after week, I never even have enough time to update my blog this month. Anyway picture paints a thousand words and thanks to my partner for staying back with me after the race to collect my prize.
Position: 5th in women open
Prize: A position trophy by the Setia Eco and RM 200 Cash Voucher by New Balance

Lesson learned: Never start too fast during the first 10 km of the half marathon. I hit the wall during the last 2 km of the race.

BV sport booster - Compression calf guards

Welcoming new running attire to my wardrobe, the BV sports black booster compression calf guard. Just got it from Runnerz Circle Store ( yesterday, this calf guard arrives just in time, to be tested and to be used during KL Marathon 2010. I will be running for half marathon distance this year. Last year I’ve attempted full marathon but stop at 30 km as I made a decision not to continue due to some minor calf injuries that cause a lot of discomfort during the run.  
Since then I’ve been using a lot of compression attire , for example compression tights, compression socks and this year it will be my first time trying on compression calf.

Just got some tips from frank in advance before i wear this calf guard upside down. He told me there is left side and right side of the calf due to the design philosophy and it's based on your human anatomy of the calf.
How to wear
1) Each leg will have it's own sleeve, left and right. Make sure the word Booster is facing out to determine which is which side.
2) Make sure the BV Sport logo is facing front too, and located just below the small little bone below your knee cap (Tibial Tubercle).
3) To determine where to wear to (height), make sure the spandex covers the Tibial Tubercle as the spandex does not have any compression material.

Tips and care
1) Hand wash preferbably. If machine wash, put it in washing net and seperate it from other clothings.
2) Can soak it overnight in detergent too, and just rinse it the next day if not too sweaty or dirty.
3) Booster word will crack eventually as it is not able to stick well on the calf compression material call Elastane and Polyamide.

Design philosophy
1) BV Sport design philosophy is based on the human body's anatomy. Therefore, the BV Booster designed is based on the calf muscle. Notice one grey area is longer than the other. Take a look at your calf muscle and you will understand.
